Ahhh Bondi, that beautiful beach that for some reason became the beach boss of Australia, the one beach the tourists have to go. Beach culture has enveloped Bondi since I was a baby and long before. But the food culture is relatively new in the scheme of things. The food game has grown and grown and now some of my favourite restaurants in Sydney are located in this fantastic area. Parida Bondi is one of these venues, a little industrial earthy cafe by day and wine bar by night – what isn’t to love?
PARIDA BONDI VENUE:
The Venue is located on the ground floor of the “newish” Pacific Building on the main drag of Bondi Beach. You can see the ocean from the venue and the only thing separating you from the ocean is sand and the main road along the beachfront. The venue is beachy earth meets industrial. Raw woods, tiles, faux exposed cement stressed paint and the white slat roof give the venue a very modern and “green” feel. This is helped by an abundance of hanging plants to soften up the look. I am immediately at home in this place, it’s the type of interior I would kill for if I built my own place. The venue is unpretentious and bright from the one side of the venue that is mostly glass and faces the beach.
The staff are efficient, friendly and cute as a button. I think our backpacking waiter was called Jean (or something similar) and I would have been happy for him to serve me at my next six months of food reviews. French, chilled to the max, and on-form with his service.
By day this is a beach cafe and mostly packed to the rafters – by night it’s a wine bar with candles and a fancier dinner menu. The cocktails and wine list are both impressive and the most exciting thing is brunch cocktails – I MUST RETURN FOR MORE OF THESE haha.
Bellinis for breakfast, Belgium Hot Chocolate or a Coconut Cold Drip for afternoon tea with salmon salad or a pulled pork burrito? You are definitely in Bondi. The menu is healthy, fresh, current and absolutely fracking divine. For breakfast Sriracha Chilli Eggs with Spinach is the way to go, or if you don’t like it hot then the customisable Parida Benedict will keep you satisfied. If you want healthy what about Pea and Halloumi Fritters? Yes please! If you want your breakfast a little sweeter a Coconut Granola Parfait or a Belgium Waffle will keep your belly smiling.
For lunch; burgers, wraps, and their best…..salads would be the way to go. We shared our lunches and I do have to come clean – the salads we ate are not currently on the new menu but I can’t imagine the salmon salad being off menu for too long. They currently have a an Apple and Quinoa Bowl and a Customisable Romesco Brown Rice Salad on offer. While checking out the new menu it appears the lunch menu is a lot smaller than when we attended a couple of months back.
It looks like the lunch menu has been shortened and an afternoon menu that kicks off at 3pm has taken quite a bit of what was available for lunch. I would more recommend Parida for breakfast, brunch and dinner, lunch is a little light. You want those share tapas plates because who doesn’t want Cheesy Chorizo Croquettes and Grilled Halloumi with Watermelon while sipping their Mimosa!!
Their coffee game is strong, utilising Gabriel coffee. Their Mocha uses Belgium chocolate and they have a Sticky Chai that is to die for. Parida also offers a Golden, or a Matcha, Latte.
AND BEST NEWS EVER – FRIDAY TO SUNDAY – 3-6PM IS HAPPY HOUR – GET IN AND SMASH THOSE YUMMY DRINKS WITH TREATS!!!
WHAT WE ATE:
- Cheesy Chorizo Croquettes with smoked chipotle aioli
- **Tasmanian Flaked Salmon Salad served with cucumbers, cranberries, mixed greens, crispy noodles and lemon aioli
- **Roasted Beetroot and Pumpkin Salad with mixed leaf, candied walnuts, Danish feta, quinoa and lemon dressing
- Wagyu Beef Burger with BBQ and secret sauce, melted cheddar, tomato and crispy onion with a side of sweet potato fries and smoked chipotle aioli
** NOT CURRENTLY ON THE MENU
WHAT WE THOUGHT:
Honestly it was all flawless. The croquettes were just perfect on every level and that aioli they have needs to be sold in bottles!! I would rarely order a burger from a cafe but drove from Canberra for this lunch and was determined to smash a burg. And was not disappointed – I rate this burg very high and on par with Sydney burger restaurants. That wagyu patty was cooked to perfection and their “secret sauce” was marvellous. And the side of sweet potato fries was genius – so much better and less guilt associated with sweet spud fries!!
But the real winner of Parida Bondi was the salads – they were sublime. Flavours and textures blended to make me prefer a salad over a burger, THIS DOES NOT COMPUTE!!! I could happily live on those two salads and look forward to trying their current Apple and Quinoa Bowl Salad.
I loved Parida Bondi. Fresh, modern, earthen rustic industrial chilled chic with awesome food, cute staff and wonderful drinks. And it looks over Bondi beach – what’s not to love?! I will be back for weekend Happy Hours, Sriracha Chill Eggs and Pulled Pork Burritos.
