I have walked past the Noodle & Dumpling Canteen a hundred times or more. It’s located right near the Hoyts cinema in Westfield that I do a lot of work at. I was curious by the venue, I love Japanese food, could basically live on it if push came to shove. I got excited when a large group of bloggers were invited in to feast at this place. Finally I would tick this off my list.

Noodle & Dumpling Canteen Venue:

The Noodle & Dumpling Canteen is located on the same floor, right next to Hoyts Cinemas in Eastgardens Westfield. It is open for lunch and most dinners, offering Movie Ticket Meal Deals. It’s a medium sized venue that is not a food court outlet but a small restaurant in the shopping centre. It is traditionally fit out with wood paneling and there are some seats outside of the restaurant in the shopping centre.

As we were there for a tasting the venue did most of the ordering for us. There was a large group of us so the amount of food that came out was HUGE! We were delivered sushi platters, sashimi platters, noodle dishes, delicious dumplings, soft shell crab, and my favourite, teriyaki chicken.

THE GOOD:

Easily my favourite was the teriyaki chicken. We were hosted so well by the staff that when I said I loved the teriyaki chicken it was basically constantly supplied to the table. I ate so much I nearly exploded. The noodle dish was a table favourite and the soft shell crab disappeared very quickly. I also inhaled many a dumpling like the fat panda I am.

THE BAD:

I did not feel the seafood was safe to eat. This was a HUGE letdown and I’m sorry, unforgivable. The first piece of seafood topped sushi I put in my mouth it was game over. I forced it down but couldn’t touch any of it again. I do not know if it was old or if the one piece I ate was bad but when I quietly mentioned it to the guest opposite me they agreed. What do you do in this situation? I couldn’t really let them know in front of ten bloggers, we all probably thought the same thing but it would crush the owner. But it’s a food fail from me regardless of how delicious and abundant everything else was. On the plus side no one got sick and this is all based on my nose and my taste – I wasn’t comfortable eating the seafood.

IN CONCLUSION:

While I worshipped the teriyaki chicken at Noodle & Dumpling Canteen, and we all loved most of the food, when the sashimi and seafood on the sushi doesn’t taste safe the venue is beyond salvation for me. The staff were just lovely and they even gave us little presents and I am horrified of such a negative food experience. Especially to such nice people. I do hope this was a once off but sadly for me I can’t bring myself to return.
